A look inside Paignton's newest hotel

In 1911, holiday makers would pass countless hours in Deller’s Cafe on Paignton seafront, enjoying good food and drinking in the sea views.

Now, over 100 years later, people can enjoy a modern take on that same experience, this time at Paignton's all-new £30 million Ibis Styles, which now sits in the cafe's place.

Paignton’s latest hotel opened its doors at the beginning of this year, offering 121 rooms, a dry-spa and a modern take on one of Torbay’s most famous restaurants.

The modern glassy building is the latest venture from the Singapore-based Fragrance Group, which opened its Mercure Hotel next door last year.

Walking through the doors of the hotel, you’re met with an open plan reception with a convivial waiting area. Gone are the days where an imposing reception blocked your way into the bar and hotel. Instead, low key check-in desks with friendly staff welcome you in. Duty manager Sandra Llano is particularly helpful in getting you sorted and making your stay as comfortable as possible.

The design of the bar and reception is a nod to Torbay’s rich maritime past, with bright blue tiles, fishing net lights and a huge lighthouse picture on the wall. Long glass windows make sure that not a moment of golden hour is wasted.

For food, Deller’s Cafe keeps it classic and simple. Large fresh burgers and basket meals are accompanied by dirty fries, spicy wings and onion rings. Deserts include waffles, shakes, sundaes and crepes. For those wanting the classic English Riviera experience, a retro gelato bar can be found next to the bar.

The drink selection is a particular highlight of the hotel. The bar doesn’t just offer classic lagers and wines, but also serves up a variety of great cocktails and many different local drinks such as Devon Rock beer, brewed by Bays Brewery just down the road.

When the weather’s good, you can enjoy all of this in the sunshine on the hotel’s large and sunny terrace.

Taking the lift to the upper floors, you’ll find tasteful, bright and spacious bedrooms with giant beds and floor-to-ceiling windows on the front-facing rooms. The sunset views across the Bay are not to be missed. The rooms also feature large televisions, luxurious showers and ample wardrobe space.

Come downstairs in the morning for a buffet style breakfast at Deller’s, with excellent sustainable coffee and a range of cooked and continental offerings.

After breakfast, It’s worth popping down to the dry-spa. Open to all hotel guests as well as local residents every Wednesday to Sunday, the spa’s facilities include three beauty treatment rooms and a fully-equipped gym.

If you do want to head out, Ibis Styles Paignton offers easy access to beautiful beaches and the scenic South West Coast Path for picturesque walks, as well as Paignton Zoo, the Pier and Splashdown Quaywest waterpark, just to name a few.

Jason Parry, Hotel Manager said: “Nestled right on the beachfront, this budget-friendly hotel is all set to delight both business and leisure travellers alike. Our enthusiastic and devoted team is eagerly awaiting your arrival, ready to extend a warm and heartfelt welcome!”
