Young Torbay plumbing and heating engineer Oakley Hunt has been hailed a star after coming to the rescue of a customer who had been taken seriously ill.

While visiting the elderly customer to carry out some work, Oakley noticed something wasn’t right.

The lady’s husband was already unwell, and she herself didn’t seem well either. Trusting his instincts, he immediately called 999 for medical help. When her condition worsened, he acted quickly, running to the local church to retrieve a defibrillator just in case.

Unable to reach any family members, Oakley stayed by her side, reassuring her and keeping her comfortable until the ambulance arrived.

Oakley, 21, works for South West Plumbing. A spokesman said: "it was a relief to know the woman was admitted to hospital and diagnosed with pneumonia—but thanks to Oakley’s quick thinking, she got the help she needed in time.

They added: "We would like to congratulate Oakley for showing such care and compassion. Sometimes it’s the little things that make the biggest difference.

"We think it would be a lovely feel-good story for Torbay Weekly and such care from a young member of the South West Plumbing Team.

"At South West Plumbing, we are proud to have team members who go above and beyond every day—and Oakley’s actions yesterday prove just that."

In April, Oakley from the South West Plumbing team and Josh Small will be running the Brighton Marathon in aid of Epilepsy Action.

The spokesman said: "This is an incredibly personal charity for Oakley and we are so proud of all the training he is already doing in preparation for next year."
